When you thought I wasn't looking,
I saw you hang my first painting on the refrigerator,
and I wanted to paint another one.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you feed a stray cat,
and I thought it was good to be kind to animals.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw you make my favorite cake for me,
and I knew that little things are special things.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I heard you say a prayer,
and I believed there is a God I could always talk to.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I felt you kiss me goodnight,
and I felt loved.

When you thought I wasn't looking, I saw tears come from your eyes,
and I learned that sometimes things hurt, but it's all right to cry.

Housework Can Wait

They're more inclined to disarray

Children Watch, Listen & Learn What They Live

Ever wonder why people are the way they are or where they learned to be a certain way? We cannot discount the influence of upbringing, peers, environment and genetics. Although we have very limited or no control over some of the things that shape our children, we can do our part to make a positive difference. We teach them by the way we treat them and the way we treat others. We can lead them by our example and how we react and cope with people and situations. It is empowering and encouraging to know that children can learn love and happiness when it is manifested in our own lives. They watch... they listen... they learn...they copy, and it becomes what they live. The greatest reward we can ever receive as parents is seeing them live out the beautiful qualities of truly happy and healthy children who grow up to make their own positive contributions to the world and the lives of others.

Below is a very beautiful poem that can inspire us all to do our part in being a positive influence in the lives of children as they learn what they live. May we guide them and help them learn from the good and the bad, inspire them to walk in integrity, live with security, confidence and love, and be the best they can be!

Thankful Kids R Happy Kids

How wonderful it would be if we could help our children and grandchildren to learn thanksgiving at an early age. Thanksgiving opens the doors. It changes a child's personality. A child is resentful, negative—or thankful. Thankful children want to give, they radiate happiness, they draw people. ~ Sir John Templeton

The best way to help our children learn to be thankful is by our example. When we are thankful, it shows in our attitude, actions, and words. Instead of complaining, let them hear us praising. Instead of thinking only of our own needs, let them see us giving and helping others. They are watching and listening to us as we model gratitude—focusing on what is right rather than what is wrong and on what we have rather than what we don't have.

Children who are overindulged learn entitlement rather than gratitude. They come to expect privileges as if they are rights they can expect and demand, and they become resentful when they do not get their way. It is often very loving parents who think they are helping their children by meeting all of their wants and wishes. The greatest desire of anyone is ultimately to be genuinely and truly happy with inner peace and love. Instilling a heart of gratitude in children is the greatest gift and investment in his or her future success and happiness that we can give.

A grateful heart is a merry heart. It instills in us a desire to give. It leads to a lifelong experience of inner joy and peace. Gratitude is the path to success and purpose. It shapes our personalities and instills in us inner beauty and grace. It opens doors to fulfilling relationships and pursuits.

Sing & Dance Yourself Happy!

We are all born to sing. I'm not saying we are all born to be professional singers. We don't have to sing in perfect key or have the greatest voice to express ourselves with song. Notice how babies respond to music from the time they are born? It's so beautiful to hear their sweet voices sing and hum melodies and their little hands and feet move to music. Singing is a part of our creative expression. When was the last time you sang a song from your heart? Even humming a simple melody to yourself can lighten your burdens and bring out the childlike joy of music that's inside you. A fun little dance or skip in your step can remind you to celebrate and enjoy life today, right now!

Friendship - One of Life's Greatest Treasures

Children learn the value of friendship from a very early age. They meet new people and make new friends all the time--in school, at family gatherings and outings, and at educational and social events. They soon learn that spending time with others is not only enjoyable, but it is a life skill. They discover the power of teamwork and the challenge of compromise. They develop the skills of communication and assertion. Their inner need for belonging and acceptance is often met in their relationships. Their innate desire to share, give and love others is also expressed through their relationships.

Friends are playmates and companions with whom life is enjoyed. Friends are also there to support, encourage and comfort. One of the greatest gifts a child can receive is a true friend. Adults have the opportunity to model friendship and caring to children every day. We show them the value of friendship through our own lives and by valuing and receiving their friendship.

Blessed are they who have the gift of making friends, for it is one of God's best gifts. It involves many things, but above all, the power of going out of one's self, and appreciating whatever is noble and loving in another. ~Thomas Hughes

Isn't it wonderful to know that every single person born into this world is a miracle! He or she is one-of-a kind, uniquely gifted and beautiful--born to love, to laugh, to discover, to create, to share, to give, to serve, to win, to experience life fully and enjoy its many gifts.

What makes each child different and unique is also what makes him or her so special. No one laughs just like her or finds all the same things amusing, fun, interesting or intriguing. No one else has those same bright eyes or says the same cute sayings. No one else likes all the exact same food, toys, or songs.
